Outdoor learning 11.12.13

Today we had 3 jobs outside with Lindsay Taylor: clearing the pond, maintaining the bug hotel and creating piles out of rocks and logs to create new habitats for small animals.

We scooped the green sludge out that was dominating the pond, checked to see if there were animals using it as a habitat and set it at the pond edge. In a few days when any other animals have crawled out of it back into the pond we will be able to take the gooey stuff away!

Our bug hotel was a bit bare so we stuffed it with more stones and straw to make it more cosy. It is now much more welcoming for animals... even Cheeky the cat was having a shot of it!

Lastly we made log and stone piles. We made sure that there were little gaps and tunnels in them for small animals to shelter and hide. We think the pond and surrounding area is looking much more welcoming now!
