Mental Maths Skills

We have been learning how to multiply TU by a single unit mentally.
We started by using a grid to help us split up the parts of the sum to make it easier.

Once we had grasped the process we could start doing the sums in our head by doing the steps in the same order.

After we had learned how to do it, as a class, we created a set of success criteria for these types of sums.

We were confident with each stage and knew how to explain it to someone else.

We were SO confident that Miss Kelday thought we were ready to multiply by groups of 10. (eg x20 x50, x60 etc)

We were a bit nervous but gave it a go.  We soon realised that if we followed our success criteria for the stage before, all we had to do was add one more step, which was to multiply by 10.

Some of us came up and demonstrated how to calculate a sum to the rest of the class.

We are pretty good at this now!  Miss Kelday is rather impressed with us!
