Burns' Day

Last Friday, Primary 6 hosted a super Scottish History assembly for the school and their families.

They presented information about St Andrew, William Wallace, Robert the Bruce and Robert Burns.

The main part of the assembly gave information about Robert Burns as the celebration to mark his life was to be held that weekend.

P6 made shortbread to hand out the the audience and performed some poems, songs and dances.

In our small groups we...

weighed our 125g of butter and...
mixed it with 55g of caster sugar.
We then stirred in 180g of plain flour and used our hand to bring it all together.

We rolled it out to about 1cm thick and placed it on a baking tray.  Sprinkled it with sugar, then baked in the oven (180c) for about 10-15 minutes.

We got lots of positive feedback so our shortbread must have been good.  Unfortunately we didn't have enough for us to try, but we were glad that our audience all got some.

After the assembly, we hosted our own P6 Burns Meal back in the classroom.

We had haggis, tatties, neeps and carrots.  We drank apple juice (more child friendly than whisky) and had a good old chat.

Cheers!
