Week

SUPREME
16 – Tea Towels
This
week we have spent a fair bit of time organising our small business. The Supreme 16 team have collected in order
forms and counted money. We have
recorded orders in a table to keep track of how many order we are getting and
who they belong to.
We
also had to double check that every pupil in the school had created a self-portrait
and all the staff had been drawn by a pupil in the school. We checked, double checked and even triple
checked so hopefully nobody has been missed out.
We
then created a draft copy of the tea towel.
We colour coded each class to make sure we spread classes out over the
tea towel. We really liked the coloured
version and wished that the company could create our tea towel like this….unfortunately
not so black and white it is!
WRITING
– For and Against Reports
We
have made a start on writing a for and against report. We were given a list of discussion topics to
choose from and picked the one we felt most strongly about. We had time to think of both sides of the
discussion so we can create a balanced discussion. We made notes ready for completing the report
next week.
READING
– Making notes from non-fiction under headings
After
creating our topic headings last week, we started looking through the books for
useful information this week. We had to
make notes in our own words and use the headings to organise our ideas
well. Some of us even introduced
sub-headings. Next week we will use
online sources to gather further information and then we will go onto create a
non-chronological report to display our information.
PROJECT
– Sound within solids, liquids and gases.
We
used our knowledge of solids, liquids and gases gathered in P5 to help us with
this part of our sound topic. We were
learning about how sound travels within each of these materials. We learned that the closer together the particles in the material then the better the sound travels. We also learned
that sound does not like to jump between materials. We tested out theory with
tuning forks and cup-string phones. We
had lots of fun testing out different ways to make these phones work – round corners,
through doors, attaching more than 1 set of cup phones together and pinging the
string to see what happens.
We
also used the theme of fireworks to think about how sound travels to our
ears. We learned that sound doesn't travel quite as fast as light and that is why we can see the flash of a firework before we hear the bang.
MATHS
– Fractions
We
have been working really hard on our fractions this week – Miss Kelday has been
pushing us really hard but we have risen to the fraction challenge.
Remembrance Crosses
P5,6 and 7 pupils were invited to attend the Remembrance Service at the Memorial this Sunday. In preparation for this event pupils from these classes wrote short messages to add to the special crosses created to remember each of the fallen service men from the local area. We were shocked at how many crosses there were and also how young some of the men were! Well done to those who attended on Sunday.
