CLYDE came to visit...

Today the children at Stromness Primary School were very lucky to receive a visit from the Commonwealth Games Mascot Clyde.

He visited the school at 3 o'clock and hosted a special assembly all about the Commonwealth Games.

Here are some photos from his visit today.

To start with we all watched a short cartoon clip to show where Clyde came from.  We learned that Clyde was grown by Captain Bistle who planted him in his garden after visiting all of the other countries in the Commonwealth and planting a Thistle.

Then Frazer introduced Clyde to the SPS pupils.  There was a lot of excitement as we cheered his name!

 Hello Clyde!!!!

Frazer and Clyde told us all about the Commonwealth Games, due to be held in Glasgow this summer.

Clyde acted out some of the sports and we had to guess what they were.

We learned that there are 17 different sports in the Commonwealth Games.

Before the Games start, the Queen's Baton is travelling around all of the Commonwealth Countries.  Inside the baton is a special message written by the Queen.  Nobody knows what this message says yet.  The message will be read out at the start of the Commonwealth Games this summer.

To show what we had learned we took part in a quiz all about the Commonwealth Games.  As a school we did very well and knew all of the answers.

Then Frazer announced that Clyde wanted to 'Race a Teacher'.  The children very kindly nominated me to race Clyde!  Thank you SPS!!! :0)

Clyde had his photo taken with the whole school.

We all said goodbye to Clyde and Frazer.

Thank you for visiting and telling us all about the Commonwealth Games.
