In the event of the school being closed because of bad weather, here are some activities that will benefit learning...
You can do as many of them as you would like.
Why not bring them into school when it reopens to show the rest of the class.
1. A factfile on a subject of your choice (made with PowerPoint on the computer or a handmade pocket booklet)
This could be an informative slideshow about your favourite TV show/Xbox game/Celebrity..., a collection of facts about one of your hobbies e.g. swimming, football, knitting...
It could be anything you are interested in.
Some things you might want to include...
* A title
* An introduction
* Headings for each section
* Information split into paragraphs or bullet points
* Hand drawn or printed pictures
* A conclusion
2. Times tables practise
You could use the extra time at home to brush up on your mental speed and agility!
Why not choose one or two tables to focus on that you find tricky and work on becoming more confident.
Things you could do...
* Find suitable online times tables games
* Write out the table forwards and backwards
* Create flashcards with the stations of the tables on them
* Make a matching game where you pair the multiplication with the answer
* Get a friend/sibling/family member to ask you mixed up questions
3. A model using recycled materials
How about finding some junk around the house that can be recycled and made into something spectacular! The other option would be to make something out of lego or other building materials. If you don't want to take your models to school you could take a picture to show the rest of the class!
Ideas...
* A monster made from toilet roll and kitchen roll tubes
* A mine craft style village made of junk
* An instrument out of rubbish e.g. a guitar with a juice carton and elastic bands
4. A visual set of instructions
You could write a set of simple instructions for how to do something and take pictures of you doing it to help the reader. It could be steps for how to make your favourite bun recipe, an exercise routine, an origami shape, knitting a scarf... it's up to you.
What you could include
* A clear title
* A brief description of what you will achieve
* Instructions organised into clear steps
* A picture to go with each step
* A closing sentence e.g. I hope you enjoyed...
5. A piece of modern art
Bring out your inner Van Gogh and create something that would be worth millions in modern art galleries!
What you could try
* A 2D or 3D image using uncooked pasta
* A bubble picture (remember making them in nursery? You could add anything to your shapes created)
* A sculpture out of plasticine
* A painting of your choice
ENJOY!
