What have we been learning so far...
In maths we started learning about whole numbers. We were improving our ability to read, write, order and compare number to either 1000, 10,000, 100,000 or 1,000,000.
We played some number games to help us improve these skills.
Here are some pupils playing the 'Guess my number' game.
Here are some other pupils practicing their place value skills.
Our topic this term is called P6 Parliament.
We are learning all about our local and national governments.
We started our learning with the Orkney Islands Council.
We found out that Orkney is split into 6 different wards. Each ward is looked after by 3 or 4 councillors. We were using the OIC website to find out who the councillors are and which area they look after.
We later sent an email to 4 of the councillors to ask if they would like to come and visit us and help us learn more about our council. They will also give us advice about how to organise and election campaign.
Tag Rugby Training
Mark Sinclair came to work with us this week on our Tag Rugby skills. We remembered a lot of the skills from last year and were able to build on these to improve.
We really enjoyed ourselves and Keith proved to be a bit of a pro, managing to score a tri during a 8v1 match. Well done Keith!
French
P6 have started learning French. They are thoroughly enjoying this and are keen to practise their conversation skills.
We have started with learning basic greetings such as hello, goodbye, how are you? etc.
It would be great if parents could encourage their children to practise at home as much as possible.
